Sharjah: Opener Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 101 helped England score 163 for four in the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage match against Sri Lanka. Captain Eoin Morgan contributed 40 runs in 36 balls.

This is the first century scored by any batsman in T20 World Cup 2021. Even before this, Jos Buttler had played a smoky innings of 71 runs in 32 balls against Australia and was not out till the end like today.

Jos Buttler’s strike rate can be gauged from the fact that he used 45 balls to score his 50 runs and completed his century in 67 balls. This meant that he scored the next 50 runs in just 22 balls.

Apart from this, Jos Buttler also completed 2000 T20 International runs for England during his innings. His captain Eoin Morgan (2367) has scored more runs than him. He has become the second England player after Alex Hales to score a century in the T20 World Cup.

Not only this, he has become the first batsman from England to score a century in all three formats of Test, ODI and T20.

Butler completed his century by hitting a six off the last ball of the innings. Buttler hit six fours and six sixes in his unbeaten 101 off 67 balls. He came out to bat after losing the toss to lift England from a delicate 35 for three and put on a crucial 112-run partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Eoin Morgan. Morgan hit one four and three sixes in 40 runs off 36 balls.

Earlier, Jason Roy nine, David Malan six and Jonny Bairstow were dismissed without opening the account. But Buttler took charge of England’s innings and hit some scintillating sixes in the final overs. Buttler got life on the third ball of the last over of Dushmant Chamira’s innings, taking advantage of which he hit a six off the last ball and crossed the hundred for the first time. He remained unbeaten on 101 runs. For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga took three wickets for 21 runs in four overs.
