If a bowler performs well in a big tournament, the team not only includes him in the squad but also plays him in the last eleven. But in this World Cup, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India’s team has kept its most successful bowler sitting on the bench.

Talking about Ravichandran Ashwin who has taken the highest number of wickets for India in T20 World Cup so far. He has taken 20 wickets at an average of 16.70 for Team India in 15 matches of 3 World Cups.

His economy has also been fine in the T20 World Cup from 2012 to 2016. He has conceded runs at an economy of just 6.18. His best performance in the T20 World Cup was taking 4 wickets for 11 runs. He is ranked 15th in the list of highest wicket-takers in the T20 World Cup. And no Indian bowler is close to him in terms of wickets in the current squad.

The team selected him in the T20 format after 4 years, but after that he did not get a single chance till now. Team India is standing on the verge of exiting the T20 World Cup after losing 2 matches.

The issue was also raised by former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar. He even said that what Virat Kohli is doing with Ravichandran Ashwin. He is wrong and considered it a matter of investigation.

He said that it was very wrong to not get Ashwin in the first two matches. Varun Chakravarti was fed on him. Looking at Ashwin’s record, there is no point in keeping him out.

Vengsarkar also said that match-by-match that Ashwin is being made to sit on the bench is a matter of investigation. Having taken over 600 international wickets and being the most experienced, he is not being fed.

He also mentioned the England series during this. Vengsarkar said that even during the England series, he was not given a chance in a Test. If he did not have to feed on the field, then why was he included in the team.

Ashwin was sitting in the pavilion throughout the England tour

R Ashwin sat in the pavilion throughout the tour of England and did not make a part of the Indian team even in a Test. Due to this, Virat Kohli was also criticized for why the second best bowler of the Test (by ranking) is sitting outside. Especially at Headingley and then the Oval, the fans were very angry when he was not included in the team. However, India managed to win the fourth Test in Ashwin’s absence and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Return to T20 team after 4 years, that too in World Cup

Ashwin has returned to the limited overs team after four years. He played his last limited overs match on 9 July 2017. Ashwin last played in T20I against West Indies in July 2017. He has taken 52 wickets in 46 T20 matches. This decision was quite shocking as not only T20 but Ashwin was included directly in the World Cup squad.

This is what captain Kohli said about Ashwin at the start of the T20 World Cup

The captain had said of Ashwin before the start of the tournament, “Ravichandran Ashwin has faith in his skills and we realized that the way he was bowling, his variations and his control over the pace is something that we have got a lot of. Experience can give. A guy who has played so many internationals, now that his confidence is at his best, we need such players here. So, I think Ashwin can totally revive his white ball skills. deserves respect for.”
