Dubai: Adding some new chapters to Indian cricket, the pair of outgoing head coach Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli, who has decided to step down from captaincy in the shorter format, will now face the Super 12 against Namibia on Monday after the team was ruled out of the semi-final race in the T20 World Cup. The final league will try to end their campaign with a win in the match.

New Zealand scored the winning run against Afghanistan at 6.30 pm IST, leaving even Indian fans disappointed as it left India out of the race for the semi-finals.

The dismay of the Indian camp can be gauged from the fact that the official media WhatsApp group of the Indian Cricket Board received a message for journalists, “The optional practice session for the evening has been cancelled.”

The disappointment of the Indians is understandable as this is the first time since 2012 that India have failed to make it to the knockouts of any International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament.

The Indian players also had their eyes fixed on the match between Afghanistan and New Zealand but they came to know only after the first innings of the match that they would soon have to catch a flight to their home country. This will give them a chance to stay out of the bio bubble after a long time.

The Indian team will definitely try to register a big win against Namibia. Players like Rahul Chahar and Ishan Kishan can get a chance for this match.

This is rarely seen when India has to play such a formal match in ICC competition. He had previously faced such a situation in the 1992 World Cup when he played against South Africa after being knocked out of the race for the semi-finals.

This is not the first time that the Indian team has not reached the semi-finals of a global tournament but the situation has never been so disappointing. India lost to Pakistan for the first time in the World Cup (T20 and ODI) and then New Zealand did the right thing.

This will be the last match of Shastri and his coaching staff. As far as Kohli is concerned, he may also have to lose the captaincy of ODIs in the coming days.

The Indian team could not reach the semi-finals of any tournament at the time of 2013 Champions Trophy. India became champions in the 50-over Champions Trophy in 2013. After that in the T20 World Cup in 2014 he finished as runner-up and in the 2015 ODI World Cup, the team reached the semi-finals.

The Indian team reached the last four in the 2016 T20 World Cup while losing to Pakistan in the final of the 50-over Champions Trophy in 2017. After this, her ODI World Cup campaign in 2019 ended in the semi-finals and was also runner-up in the World Test Championship.

Namibia have only defeated Scotland in the Super 12 so far and will look to make an impact against a strong team like India. (Language)
