Dubai:Namibia initially started scoring runs fast against India. After this, the spin bowlers brought India back in the match and in the end again the fast bowlers especially Shami looted a lot of runs, due to which Namibia was not a big score in the final league match but could keep the target of 133 runs against India.
For India, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets each. But Mohammed Shami conceded 39 runs in his quota of 4 overs. India’s fielding was a bit sluggish in their last league match, giving Namibia a few bonus runs. Significantly, after this match, Virat Kohli is retiring from the captaincy of the T20 match.
Virat Kohli would like to make Team India victorious against Namibia by playing a captaincy innings today. Virat Kohli is called Chess Master anyway.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin spun magic as India restricted Namibia to a score of 132 for eight in their final match of Group II of the ICC T20 World Cup here on Monday. Both the teams are already out of the race for the semi-finals.
Jadeja took 3 for 16 while Ashwin took 3 for 20 as the Namibian team lost wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah also took two wickets for 19 runs.
For Namibia, only David Wiese (26) and opener Stephen Bard (21) managed to cross the 20-run mark. India, however, gave away 17 extra runs to help the Namibian team reach a respectable score.
In his 50th and final match as captain of India’s T20 International team, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bowl, followed by Michael Van Lingen (14) hitting Bumrah for two fours in the second over while Stefan Bard (21) struck. The team got off to a positive start by hitting a six on Mohammed Shami.
Lingen, however, tried to pick up Bumrah’s bouncing ball and gave it a simple catch to Shami at mid-off.
In the next over, Jadeja stumped Craig Williams at the hands of Rishabh Pant without opening the account. Namibia scored 34 for two in the power play. Bard hit his first four on Jadeja but the left-arm spinner took him leg before in the same over.
After Ashwin caught Jane Nicole Lofty Eaton (05) in the slips at the hands of Rohit Sharma, captain Gerhard Erasmus (12) was caught by Pant at the hands of Namibia at 72 for five.
Jadeja’s delivery, Rohit took a brilliant catch of JJ Smit (09) in cover while Ashwin bowled Jane Green (00).
Namibia’s century of runs was completed in the 17th over. YC also became a victim of Bumrah after this, due to which the Namibian team failed to collect runs fast in the last overs. Vaisi hit two fours in his 25-ball innings.
Ruben Trumpelman (13 not out in six balls) and Jane Frylink (15 not out) took Namibia’s score past 130 runs.
