Electing to bat after losing the toss, England made a good score in front of New Zealand. In the absence of Jason Roy, England scored 40 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in the powerplay. But after that the partnership of David Malan and Moeen Ali made quick runs.

Moeen Ali completed his fifty in the last over and scored 50 runs in just 36 balls. In which 3 fours and 2 sixes were included. Glenn Phillips left the catch of Eoin Morgan on the end ball and England reached the score of 166 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Apart from Moeen Ali, David Malan contributed 41 and Jos Buttler contributed 29 runs for England. New Zealand bowled with seven bowlers, out of which Tim Southee, Adam Milne, James Neesham and Ish Sodhi took one wicket each.
