IPL 2021 winning franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained Ravindra Jadeja Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad along with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the squad for the 2022 edition of the tournament.

CSK had already made up its mind to retain Dhoni. It is fully expected that this might be Dhoni’s last IPL, before this Dhoni has already said that he wants to say goodbye to franchise cricket from the Chennai ground itself.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s performance with the bat may not have been special, but he took Chennai to the final with his bat and won a match. This is the reason why Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who scored 114 runs in just 16 matches with the bat at an average of 16, was retained for 12 crores.

The second name in this list is that of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was retained for the most 16 crores. Jadeja took 13 wickets in IPL 2021, showing amazing with the ball and scored 227 runs with the bat.

Chennai Super Kings was in talks with England all-rounder Moeen Ali. His spin bowling can prove useful in India. Moeen Ali was retained for 8 crores. In IPL 2021, he scored 357 runs and took 6 wickets.

Apart from this, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who wore the Orange Cap in IPL 2021, was also retained for 6 crores. Ruturaj Gaikwad touched 635 runs in the final, leaving behind his own teammate Faf du Plessis. He scored these runs at an average of 45 which included 1 century and 4 half-centuries.

Dhoni-Raina pair will get separated

There have been discussions about the friendship of Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Except for a few seasons, this pair has appeared in the Chennai Super Kings team only. But the pair broke up in IPL 2022 as Chennai has not retained Suresh Raina. Raina’s bat remained silent in IPL 2021, due to which he was released. Suresh Raina could score 160 runs in 12 matches at an average of 17.

It is worth mentioning that there is going to be a mega auction for IPL 2022. Earlier, the old eight franchises have been allowed to retain a maximum of four players, while all other players will go for auction. At the same time, this time the option of right to match card has also been removed. Two new teams will be allowed to choose three players each from the players who have entered the auction. After this there will be a mega auction.
