New Delhi: Former Indian women’s cricket team captain Jhulan Goswami’s biopic ‘Chakdah Express’ will air on OTT platform Netflix. The lead role in the film is played by Anushka Sharma.
The film is based on the illustrious career of Jhulan Goswami, one of the best female fast bowlers in the history of world cricket, who went on to pursue her one and only dream of playing cricket despite innumerable obstacles posed by anti-women politics.
Directed by Prosit Roy, ‘Chakdah Express’ is produced under the banner of Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma’s ‘Clean Slate Films’.
In a statement released by the ‘Over the Top’ platform on Thursday, Anushka Sharma said, “This is a truly special film as it is the story of a great sacrifice. ‘Chakdah Express’ is inspired by the life of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and will bring to the fore many truths from the world of women’s cricket.
“When Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very difficult to even think of women playing sports. Many developments have been shown in this film, which gave a new shape to her life and women’s cricket.
